Now

  • Dreaming and wondering what our family’s future will look like
  • Reading in the slivers of free time I have

And to aspire to live quietly, and to mind your own affairs, and to work with your hands, as we instructed you. [1 Thessalonians 4:11]

Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider him who endured from sinners such hostility against himself, so that you may not grow weary or fainthearted. In your struggle against sin you have not yet resisted to the point of shedding your blood.  And have you forgotten the exhortation that addresses you as sons? “My son, do not regard lightly the discipline of the Lord, nor be weary when reproved by him. For the Lord disciplines the one he loves, and chastises every son whom he receives.” It is for discipline that you have to endure. God is treating you as sons. For what son is there whom his father does not discipline? If you are left without discipline, in which all have participated, then you are illegitimate children and not sons. Besides this, we have had earthly fathers who disciplined us and we respected them. Shall we not much more be subject to the Father of spirits and live? For they disciplined us for a short time as it seemed best to them, but he disciplines us for our good, that we may share his holiness. For the moment all discipline seems painful rather than pleasant, but later it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it. Therefore lift your drooping hands and strengthen your weak knees, and make straight paths for your feet, so that what is lame may not be put out of joint but rather be healed. [Hebrews 12:1-13, bolding added]

  • How I want more time in my day for all the interests and responsibilities I have: I want to read, watch films and television shows, learn Japanese, learn to crochet, deep clean the entire house, organize miscellaneous items, wake up before the kids but also stay up late and somehow get all the sleep I need to not wear a long face and be a grouch lol, go for walks, etc etc. The list goes on. I only have 24 hours. I feel like I need 8000 lifetimes.
  • I’m really interested in the connections I’m drawing between the book of Ecclesiastes and the Japanese term 小確幸 (shōkakkō) coined by Haruki Murakami.
  • I’m so done with social media. I want to write and document, and perhaps even consider connecting with others, but I. Hate. Social. Media!!!!! Drained by Substack, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, and the like. I don’t like that these apps and platforms are designed to encourage you to create for monetary reasons. I can’t stand AI slop everywhere. I also want to make video diaries but I feel kinda burdened by the catalogue of videos I’ve made on my channel from over the years.

The Idiot by Fyodor Dostoyevksy

Current thoughts: I’m really blown away by Dostoyevsky’s ability to describe characters with such precise personalities; from their physiognomy to the quirks and cadence in their speech. Reading his work is so enriching when I put my actor-hat on and analyze a scene like for scene study class.

Current thoughts: A gentle, tender, and quiet reflection on little moments; feels like mis-en-scène in the written word.
